Where it is and why it works
Brynmill sits between Singleton Park and the seafront, west of the city centre. That geography is the whole pitch: Singleton campus is a walkable few minutes across the park, the beach is at the bottom of the hill, and the city centre is a short bus, cycle or determined walk away. For students at Singleton, almost nowhere beats the commute.
What living there is like
Terraced streets full of student houses, which means your neighbours are mostly people living the same year you are. Corner shops, coffee, takeaways and pubs are scattered through the area rather than gathered in one strip, and Uplands - with its bars, cafes and Saturday market - borders it to the north, so you're never far from a night out or a proper brunch.
Sport and outdoors are Brynmill's quiet strengths: Singleton Park for running and summer afternoons, the beach and prom for everything else, and the St Helen's ground on the doorstep.
What houses are like
Mostly classic terraced houses sharing between three and seven people - living room, kitchen, and bedrooms spread over two or three floors. They go early: Brynmill is consistently the first area where the well-kept houses get signed each autumn, so if your group has its heart set on it, start viewing in the autumn term.
